Sometimes called "chill music," this genre envelopes a mellowing style of electronica aimed for the lounge rather than the dance floor. This isn't drone or abstract music, however. There's still a groove, though the bpm's tend to be slower and more low-key. Downtempo is a broad category, the music often laden with thick, knocking drums, warm, earthy melodies, and influences ranging from hip-hop to jazz, funk, and dub.
