Rima produce the kind of jazzed-out broken beat you'd expect to find on a compilation by stateside greats like Mark Farina's Mushroom Jazz project or King Britt or Jazzanova. There's a hint of dissipated UK-bred genre 2-step here (R.I.P.), but not enough to scare anyone off.
Nu Jazz is a rather broad term for jazz-based electronic music. It can range from the smoother, more organic works of St. Germain and Jazzanova to the more intense, cybernetic fusions of Jaga Jazzist and Amon Tobin. The beauty, diversity, and improvisational spirit of jazz lend themselves perfectly to the pioneering ideology of electronic music, resulting in a whole new range of possibilities. Sampling revives and reinterprets moments of classic jazz brilliance, while contemporary jazz artists build their work from the ground up with a new technological twist. Labels like Compost, with their Future Sound of Jazz series, Ninja Tune, and even the legendary Verve label have been instrumental in pushing Nu Jazz artists into the limelight.
