Given that the heirs apparent to Massive Attack and Portishead hail from Toronto--it seems there's no genre the Canadians haven't mastered. And while the group's success is still mostly regional, its blend of blissed-out trip-hop beats and sweeping, sultry vocals should have no problem crossing the border.

Oh, the veritable blog, how we love thee! Combing over a string of sites in succession is now the Internet version of crate digging, what with all the great music one lone surfer can find, and usually for free (take that, you stuffy big-label suits). We did some research ourselves and found a bunch of artists making the Interweb pulsate like a stack of subs at a hot summer festival.

UFO!
Drum n' bass DJ/Producer UFO! has reinvented himself into an electronic artist outside the realm of DNB, and it's a happy move. His new stuff is gorgeous and delicate, yet headstrong and purposeful--kind of like Postal Service with the added oomph of a drum-n-bass vet.
Portishead
The great Bristol act's new LP is casually titled "Third," as though it's not arriving a full eleven years after "second" (1997's stunning "Portishead"). The record is a masterful turn on trip-hop, as haunted vocal sketches and tetchy rhythms are brought down to the intimate scale of bedroom folk.
