This is simply a blanket term for rock music that's sung in a language other than English. Though it's rooted in the U.S. and Britain, rock 'n' roll has had a huge global impact judging from the variety and significance of its foreign-language participants. Most non-English-speaking artists, however, have a hard time breaking out of obscurity and seemed destined at best for cult status (such as with Brazilian psychedelic band Os Mutantes). Vast musical worlds await discovery, though, for those who make the effort to explore.
