The solo project of Sao Paolo's Farmer Williams isn't related to the Will Oldham outfit--though the Bonnie Prince would approve of this Palace's professed use of "cheap instruments." He'd probably dig Williams's tunes, too: they're gloriously broke-down scufflers that are as anti as folk can get.
After Dylan popularized folk music by introducing both rock and pop characteristics and a rebellious personality, many folk artists embraced elements of pop music. Singers and songwriters like Joan Baez, Peter, Paul & Mary, and John Prine melded folk's acoustic core and politicized sensibility with more emotional, personal themes, easing the music's stringent restrictions.
Notable Artists: Joan Baez, Peter, Paul & Mary, the Kingston Trio, John Prine
