With roots in the early 8-bit constraints of the '70s, videogame music was, and continues in the modern digital age to be crafted with an objective parallel to that of dance music: to create a dynamic, energizing atmosphere subject to manipulation by a third party. Be it a videogame player finishing one level and moving onto the next, or a DJ taking the dancefloor through his or her own series of levels, both styles of music are designed as a controllable mechanism.
