Perhaps the only practitioners of Piedmont blues to be neither blind nor ordained, John Cephas and Phil Wiggins have nonetheless found long-term success with their dusky guitar-and-harmonica pairing. Wiggins's guitar rollicks without too much twang, and Cephas's meaty harmonica chugs right along.
Covering all of Piedmont blues--a style that relied on fast, virtuosic fingerpicking and added influences such as ragtime--as well as the urbanized R&B of New York blues and countless smaller regional styles, East Coast blues casts a wide net.
