Latin pop includes a number of musical styles ranging from dance and rock to other styles of Latin music such as Tejano, salsa, and samba. Much of Latin pop consists of strong rhythms made up of a fusion of American pop, salsa, and rock elements. Though some of today's Latin-pop stalwarts make dance-oriented music that relies on synthesizers, drum machines, and percussion (Ricky Martin, Shakira, Gloria Estefan), Latin pop can also show influences from jazz and folk. During the early 1980s, Miami and New York were the hot spots for the Latin dance scene, where songs from the likes of Estefan ("Rhythm Is Gonna Get You," "Conga") and Tejano singer-songwriter Selena ("Ven Conmigo") received enormous radio play. In the '90s, a newer generation of Latin-pop artists began to develop including Marc Anthony, Christina Aguilera, and Jennifer Lopez.
