Whenever rappers, underground beat magicians, and NFL stars come together, good things always happen. OK, so this may be the first instance of it, but have faith despite the small sample size. The "Paris, Texas" remix outing puts catchiness and grooviness into highly entertaining competition.
Believe it or not, you can thank NFL star Trevor Pryce for 33Hz, the gritty, glitzy NYC electro troupe composed of Ben Lowe, Timothy G. Wagner, and Brion Isaacs. Indeed, after catching wind of 33hz's "Tron-inspired" garage-pop, the Baltimore Ravens' defensive end signed the trio to his own indie, Outlook Music. And the rest, as they say, is history. What followed was a host of glistening reviews (4 stars in URB!), love from MTV hits like Real World and Road Rules, and tours with Architecture in Helsinki. But the best part, as far as your friend's at the Musebox are concerned, is the "Paris, Texas" remix project, wherein the group had the opportunity to collaborate with two rappers from two different sides of the Atlantic: Devin The Dude of Houston, Texas, and TTC's Teki Latex of Paris, France. The result features mixes of the original roller by some of the international electronic underground's hottest new names: Max Pask, Curtis Vodka, in Flagranti, Gentlemen Drivers, 33Hz and yes, Architecture in Helsinki.Check out the Gentlemen Drivers take below. The label that this new remix album comes out on is Dither Down.
