nice playing, mediocre toccata

I think this pianist offers a lot of color and drive to a piece that is clearly not worth the trouble. The tempo appears to be too slow, very little interesting happens throughout a very long sounding 8 and one half minutes, and after the extremely gaudy and bombastic ending, I was left shaking my head "why?" Ravel, Prokofieff, Moeran, Casadesus and Sancan among others wrote far more interesting toccatas than this one, which never adds up to more then the sum of its lackluster parts. Would like to hear this pianist in the challenging Ginastera or Barber sonatas....he seems to have the temperament for them!
