Being a fan of chilled music, and also being a fan of Jazz and Ambient, Kush was quite a gem to discover. The music seems to tease the listener with the occasional ethnic sound, or a jazz-influenced Piano or Brass line, and no element of the music is constant. With mellow chords and an urban yet strangely classy beat, Kush manages to conjure the atmosphere of the city at night without losing the serenity you find with all good lounge music.
Though I would rather give Kush something between 4 and 5, I'll settle with four stars as the music can (in a couple of places) lose its consistency, and though having all these songs revolve around a similar theme is nice, it would be nice to hear a song with a different feel.

Open synths and laid back rythms leave the canvas prepared for ultra cool brass. If only I had downtown view I could chill with expensive scotch.

Kush has the courage to do what few traditional jazz artists do anymore...create spontaineous compositions live on the fly -and then preserves them so that those of us not fortunate enough to witness the "live birth" can enjoy the fruits thereof...streams of consciousness captures the essence of the collective's efforts to achieve this improvisational ambient-electronica-jazz perfectly and transports the listener to another, better place - where Miles must be smiling...

in indigenous tribal custom the "giveaway" is an ofering to all beings on the earth some intrinsic part of your inner being .. Kush opens out and shares their giveaway to all those willing to venture a little off the trail into a deep artistic wilder-ness . . sweet nu jazz on the edge of its own wilderness.
