John Coltrane was a member of that group of saxophone artists that flowered in the 1950s and went on to greater things unlike many of this cohort some of whom had stupendous talent but absolutely no sense because of drug usage. Coltrane was at the pinnacle of the talent pyramid both instrumentally and inventively - few have been his equal and few ever will! This example of his work together with Joe Henderson and Sonny Rollins epitomises the excitement of the times.
