San Francisco-based pianist Laura Sullivan is on the cusp of joining the regular New Age playlist.
She hasn't quite arrived yet.
Her compositions need just that little more inventiveness.
Of the more predictable New Age- orchestrated pieces The Serpent
Mound stood out for me.
It got the closest to showing the full musicality of Sullivan in the genre.
I guess the description of her "wide-eyed,almost childlike playing style" was most demonstated in her impressionistic song Jumping Fish where you could almost feel the fish skipping across the waves.
Of the classical pieces, Pachelbel For the Potomac was the most successful.
It was a set of variations on 18th Century composer Johann Pachelbel's famous Canon.
Sullivan's interpretation was very imaginative - and sometimes crossed over into jazz.
The only thing really interesting about her reworking of Beethoven's Moonlight Sonata was the name Mt.Shasta.
It lacked the imagination of the Pachelbel.
The artist played Debussy's languorous Claire de Lune beautifully.
Her control of the dynamics of the piece, especially the pianissimo, were superbly executed.
Bookmark gifted Laura Sullivan. She is an artist to watch.

I love this artist. I like the slow feel of the music that can be perceived as happy or sad, and I especially love the song "Shalaelah". I actually want to name my future daughter Shalaelah because of this song!!! Keep up the good work, Laura!!!

I found this playlist few months ago, and since that day, i fall in love with her songs.
The most favourite artist and songs in this website for me, are her songs.
My most favourite song is Pinot Noir.
I feel like these two instruments(piano and another instrument) are talking each other, so beautiful...

One can tell this Artist is a master arranger, interpreting each selection with a smooth and confident touch. Ms. Sullivan bridges that boundary between classic easy listening and the spirit of new age seamlessly.
