An album that changed an industry

There was probably nore more fortuitous accident then the day I went to Tower Records and couldn't find the new Public Enemy album and picked up NWA's Straight Out of Compton.
I took it home (on Cassette--yeah, I'm old; sue me) put it into the tape player, turned it on and haven't been the same ever since.
Sure, there was profanity and harsh imagery in East Coast Rap music before NWA, but this album, powered by Ice Cube's lyrical magic and Dr Dre's production talents made me shiver.
The driving drums and riffs of "Straight out of Compton" and the opening lyrics set the stage for a true and honest expression of the rage of disenfranchisement.
That this seminal work has been reduced reused and recycled into the trendy "Gangsta" Rap of today makes me sad. I hope that since this stream is available, you kids out there will take a listen to what real visionary and predictive rap is all about. Remeber: "F__K Tha Police" was written the Reginald King beating was cought on tape.
