The beat is often ska with a pop sensibility. But the words belie a cerebral approach to her craft. This girl can write and sing. She has a playful, cutesy voice that can be either very pleasing when appropriate yet biting. Her very British cockny affectation is cute. However, I believe it won't be so obvious in her sophomore album. Listen to the words carefully and don't get lost in the beat. She has something to say. And she does it in a very sutle way (in most cases). In a sea of sound-a-like hip hop/rap and pop music Lily is a breath of fresh air. This may be the most interesting album of the year, so far.
