Porter's 80 years old but this is no toss away album, it's old school country of the sort you rarely hear anymore. His voice is still in decent shape, and the arrangements are stripped down as they should be. True honky tonk from a true master.

Years ago when I saw Porter Waggoner on TV, I thought he was kinda corny. But, he was then, as well as now, as close to a living definition of 'country music' as there is. And, like Johnny Cash, Porter's music seems to have a world-weariness of increasing proportions as time goes on. All the newer country wannabees should probably listen to Porter, and then re-focus themselves on what they're doing.
