Highly skilled musician in search of a message

Tressie plays very well; her tunes are well thought out and pleasing to the ear. However, her lyrics lack direction. My suggestion would be for her to step out on a limb -- try to make a surprising statement, or look at things from an unusual perspective (Mary Chapin Carpenter's "I Feel Lucky" comes to mind).
