Not good

This has got to be the worst recording I have ever heard of this song. I am really surprised that the record label included this in this release collection. The vocals are weak and not convincing, the musicianship is very poor. This is basically the sound of a drugged up band.

Country sessions of the early 60s sound much more professional than this. If I can recall properly this artist although famous was never very high on the Top Country charts of the time. Overall if I was looking for a recording of this song I'd buy the version by Glen Campbell.

Unique Version

I liked this interpretation. It's not the over-produced schmaltzy type of Elvis or Glen Campbell production. Good ole pathos... this is a classic "be careful what you wish for" kinda country song. I think Gram did it just fine. The steel pedal guitar is nice.

He did leave off the final verse, though.
