Not so "experimental"
But good punk. Great effort, especially for a lone guy. Hope he gets heard and picked up. He adds much to the music around worth listening to today, especially on this site.

The Dears: "Gang Of Losers"
Gang of Losers?
Were they planning on playing like losers? Is that why they gave this album that title? I always begin with the free downloadable track with new featured artists. The guitar riff is well done, if not mechanical, but it sounds like so many that have been done before, for the past 4 decades. The vocals come in so late, you begin to think it's just a guitar sample through to the end of the song--and when the vocals do finally come in, they're inaudible, unimpressionable, and the lyrics are indistinct. Just the idea that they're probably not distinguished comes across. I was not inspired to go on to listen to any of the other tracks you can stream for free. I cut off this one at the end. It went from boring at its midpoint, to annoying. Couldn't end fast enough for me. Sorry, Dears, you lose.

Oh, Yes, The Boy Can Sing!
And twang--sounds like a 12-string slide. He has got an old soul, this is the first editorial that I agree with. Maybe he just can't count--I can't believe he's 20 years old. I do only like the first track, though. It sounds like "Crossroads" by Robert Johnson. The tempo is what I like here, too, and I agree that Eli Cook is reminiscent of John Lee, Son House, and Elmore James. Now, this is electric, or Chicago, blues! And the editor's review is right here, too--no one is playing it like this anymore. I wish "Fixin' To Die" was the free download.

The analog recording of the guitar tracks did it. Great old-timey-surfin' Californiabilly. Glad someone is still around giving it life.
