Electric Light Orchestra

This band seriously epitomizes what boundary pushing music can aspire to.

"We've got great lyrics, hoppy drum beats, great molodies and harmonies going, we must have it all! No way man, lets toss in a few violin arpeggios for good measure!" This band has always been one of the defining factors of good music to me. Music that is just plain fun to listen to. They don't take themselves too seriously and they don't expect you to do so either. I'm sure it was difficult to pick which tracks to leave off of this album. Just sit back and enjoy, my rating, 5/5 no question.

There is no Band

There is no band....oh how I wish that was true.

I will start with the good. The instrumentals on this album are extremely creative and it sounds like they are having fun with the music they are making. Now the bad. I have a lot of music on my computers including a vast array of death metal and while many people wouldn't be able to distinguish between bands of this genre I can, and believe me this one doesn't even compete with the worst of my collection. I'd gladly hand over my rare copy of immortalised 1986-2000 if it helped you see the light of what good Death Metal can aspire to. Do yourself a favor and go find some Napalm Death or Morbid Angel instead, This easily gets a well deserved 1/5.

Atreyu

When you have a name that is way too awesome for your band....

This album is entirely too predictable and I would only recommend this band to people that have never heard a good metal band before. If you've heard a single decent metal act prior to rolling this album then you know just how bad this stuff really is. Highly recommended as a stepping stone for people that haven't heard any metal before, I bet this would be a great place to start and eventually work your way up to the good metal bands. By the time you've reached the likes of Slayer and Megadeth and you realize the junk you've been listening to in bands like Atreyu, be sure to thank them for teaching you how to distinguish between a good/great metal band and a complete %#!@ one like this. 1/5 stars

Death Cab for Cutie

Definitely the best mainstream alternative/pop band on the market right now.

This is one of the VERY few current pop bands that I will admit to having a decent amount of respect for. Their song writing is not too formulaic like most of the recent pop acts have been and their songs are (are you ready for this?) ACTUALLY DISTINGUISHABLE from one another! A feat unheard of in the current recipe for pop stardom. If only their lead singer looked more like Chris Carrabba and less like Brian Wilson they would be ***** owning the music charts right now. I think its complete bull%@#! thats the way things are at the moment but hopefully that will change before too long. I strongly recommend this band to any fan of music from the likes of the Strokes and scorn hardcore pop fans because you really don't deserve to have a band this good buried among your troves of pop garbage to choose from.

Nothing innovative but done well none the less.

Peruse through several of the local starting up bands with a female singer in your area using either craigslist or myspace and see if they have any mp3s of their work on their pages. Click the sample and you will more than likely have a revelation that they all sound about as good sometimes worse but sometimes even better than this band and then re-think your rating of this song/album/band. I gave this band a 3/5 without a hint of hesitation as the music felt very genuine and heart felt but at the same time very over done.
