Americans may not always be welcome in Paris, but this one is. The young pianist's interpretations of Debussy and his sort show a comfort with the high romance that's a French favorite. Ilic's smooth dynamic range also fits well in his more contemporary recordings.
28 year old pianist Ivan Ilic is quickly gaining international recognition for his "rich colors and sheer depth and luxuriance of sound." He recently received a grant from the Nadia Boulanger Foundation in Paris for 2006-2007. Ivan initially took degrees in music and mathematics at UC Berkeley. He then left for Paris on Fellowship, where he was awarded a Premier Prix at the Conservatoire Superieur. The City of Paris sponsored his last recording.
