In addition to high-speed browsing and instant-messaging capabilities, Netscape features one-click searching from the address bar; Quick Launch, which reduces the browser start-up time; Click-to-Search, which allows users to select a word within a Web page and search; improved instant messaging, including support for buddy icons, file transfers, and buddy alerts; and tabbed browsing, which allows users to view multiple Web pages in a single browser window.

Netscape 8.1 adds anti-spyware protection, dynamic security center, profile manager, and enhanced RSS support features.

This latest version of Netscape builds on the more refined codebase of Mozilla Firefox, rather than the full-scale Mozilla browser on which prior versions were based. The snappy, airbrushed interface is a nice touch, although it can get slightly cluttered with content. For example, Netscape comes preloaded with News, Weather, and Webmail buttons over the browser window. Netscape offers the full array of features we like in Firefox, such as tabbed browsing, pop-up blocking, and RSS reading. It also brings in a more robust form filler, which includes a password database.

One of the most interesting aspects of this browser is the Internet Explorer (IE) mode; if a page is tagged for viewing in IE, the program will render it within the Netscape window using the IE engine. Reflecting its corporate ties, the sidebar feature integrates AOL Instant Messenger. Unlike Firefox, you can't customize the integrated search box, which is set to Netscape. The URL field is too short to be practical for people who type Internet addresses. A few features, such as themes, that don't seem to work just yet, forgivable since this is a beta. Some users reported experiencing a bug that breaks the display of RSS/XML pages in Internet Explorer, which might be less forgivable. Devoted Firefox users may give this a look, then go back to their favorite browser, but IE users might want to avoid the Netscape beta until the XML bug is fixed.

  Version: Netscape 8.1

  "The best version of Netscape ever"

  Pros: I am not sure how many Netscape users are left, with the likes of Firefox, Opera, Avant, Slim, Aol Exploer, etc on the market. I don't know if this new version, 8.1, will bring any of them back, but it is greatly improved. Netscape 8.1 comes with it's own security center now, and it is a good one. It features spyware protection, excellant popup blocking, ID theft protection, and site ratings. The tabbed browsing is improved and the web pages open faster. Firefox users will like this version, Opera users will never switch, so who knows. If you have the time, try it out. It is much improved

  Version: Netscape 8.1

  "The Best"

  Pros: This is the best Browser on the net today. Pages load much faster than they ever would with internet explorer. I'm giving this one a 10. If you have a slow internet connection, give this browser a try.

  "Solid Browser"

  Pros: The Netscape Browser is very good. It's stable and the Netscape Security Center keeps the browser from being a gateway from malware (worms, trojans, adware, spyware, etc.). Additionally, it piggy backs on the Firefox browser to add extra security.

  Cons: It isn't anywhere as customizable as Firefox. I can't log into AOL, via the Netscape Browser, unless I tell it to "display like Internet Explorer."

  Version: Netscape 8.1

  "Very good browser"

  Pros: This is a good browser offering more security than firefox and opera.

  Iy has an highly efficient inbuilt Spyware and adware scanner which not only scans your downloads but also scans your PC.

  It has a different interface which looks good.

  Pages definitely load faster than IE.

  Cons: Tabbed browsing could be a bit better

  Freezes up sometimes

  No extensions and hardly any themes. So, FF is definetly more customizable.

  Overall I recomend this download
