A useful tool for Web site developers and programmers, this clean, streamlined program helps edit HTML and text files. Pad's interface is basic and intuitive, and toolbars are easily customized. The program provides syntax highlighting (for 36 of the most popular programming languages), unlimited undo, and a search-and-replace engine with regular expressions. Though it includes an image viewer and a word processor, Pad only supports RTF files and not DOC files. We liked the HTML features that allowed us to copy HTML tags and to automatically convert special characters into HTML. Overall, though the price tag doesn't make it a replacement for the freeware Notepad, this is a robust and reliable tool for coders.

"Don't even think of downloading this!"

Summary: The one good feature of the newer version of pad (Pad 3.02) the close button, download the older version it's heaps better easier to use and you don't need to register it
