Shapiro Project is a Las Vegas based Jazz Quartet. Guitarist Eugene Shapiro serves as Shapiro Project's bandleader and composer. It also features Eugene's brother Boris Shapiro on drums.
Eugene Shapiro is endorsed by Thomastik-Infeld strings company. He is also a recipient of the Nevada Arts Council Fellowship in Jazz Composition and several other awards, including ASCAP Pop Awards and Honorable Mention in the Billboard Songwriting Contest. Eugene is currently teaching Guitar at the Community College of Southern Nevada? and is also very active on the Las Vegas Jazz scene. He holds Master's Degree in Jazz Studies from University of Nevada, Las Vegas.
Shapiro Project was organized in 2000 by four University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV) graduate students pursuing degrees in Jazz studies, including Eugene's brother Boris Shapiro on drums. All the members of the Shapiro Project are very experienced jazz musicians with more than 10 years of performing experience in playing Jazz and commercial music all over the United States and the world-Israel, Germany, Japan etc.
Shapiro Project's first CD "True Colors" was released on TNC Jazz Recordings in January of 2002. It featured 11 original compositions written by Eugene Shapiro. The group's second CD "Open Road" was released in November 2005 and features 9 original compositions written by Eugene Shapiro.
Shapiro Project have played many music and Jazz festivals such as Spirit of Music Festival in San Francisco, CA, Lionel Hampton Jazz Festival in Moscow, ID, Fremont Street Jazz Festival in Las Vegas, NV, and International Association of Jazz Educators (IAJE) Conference in Los Angeles, CA.
The members of the Shapiro Project have played with many world known musicians such as Michel Legrand, Mulgrew Miller, Walt Weiskopf, The Temptations, The Mills Brothers, Little Anthony and the Imperials, Dave Liebman, Cedar Walton and John Swana. Shapiro Project also played all over Las Vegas, including the Strip.
