Publisher's description of Vim
From Vim.org:Vim is a highly configurable text editor built to enable efficient text editing. It is an improved version of the vi editor distributed with most UNIX systems. Vim is often called a 'programmer's editor', and so useful for programming that many consider it an entire IDE. It's not just for programmers, though. Vim is perfect for all kinds of text editing, from composing e-mail to editing configuration files.

Version: Vim 6.4
Pros: Vi is the text editor. Vim stands for vi improved and it is the text editor most people really use now when they say vi and was originally for UNIX but is available for most any OS.
Cons: From the Vim website:
Vim isn't an editor designed to hold its users' hands. It is a tool, the use of which must be learned.
Currently download.com has v6.4 but v7.0 is available from the vim website: vim.org

Version: Vim 6.4
Pros: Awesome, awesome editor for old-school folks.
-
Version: Vim 6.4
Pros: Helps unix programmers to feel at home on Windows. Vim expands vi and even break some limitation of the original such as long line limit.
Cons: If you dont know vi, then you may have trouble. If you take time to learn and practice, you will soon find yourself wondering why you didn't use it sooner.
