From Laminar Research: This refined flight simulator includes a physics modeler that can simulate various weather conditions, as well as advanced technologies such as dynamic speech synthesis; hardware-accelerated, texture-mapped graphics; OpenGL support; serial-port output to drive cockpit instruments; motion systems; and moving maps. Other features include a variety of runway surfaces, oil rigs with helipads, and full rendering of other air traffic for formation flying. Cockpit textures, plane textures, and sounds are all customizable. Version 8.6 adds new keyboard selection interface.Note: The Download Now link will download a small installer file to your desktop. Remain online and double-click the installer to proceed with the actual download.

Editor's review of X-Plane
This flight simulator is so realistic, you may want to bring along a parachute. One of the longest running flying simulators for Mac just keeps getting better. With ultrarealistic physics and tons of airports to choose from, it's almost as though you're actually flying.
The latest update runs faster than ever and includes new weather effects. It also adds to the number of available airports and provides more precise flight modeling. Our one serious caveat is the demo gives you only five minutes for each flight.
If you like flying games or want to know what it's like to be in the cockpit of a plane, this is one of the best simulators out there for the Mac. But we wouldn't recommend trying X-Plane out if you don't have broadband--the five-minute limitation simply isn't worth the huge download time unless you're serious about finding the perfect flight simulator.
