Publisher's description of X-RayPC
From XBlock.com Privacy Software:
X-RayPC is a systems-management tool with a built-in expert system. No external runtimes, DLLs, or libraries are required, and no installation is needed. The program makes complete analyses in seconds. It lists active processes, autostart programs, and BHOs; downloads program files; has plug-ins for IE extensions; shows the file size and MD5 of all files instantly; shows which items are "good," "bad," or "unknown"; and has an integrated file uploader. It includes integrated deactivation and removal of an item or file, and it can kill running processes, delete in-use files (after reboot), detect hundreds of "bad" programs, and export the log file in text, Excel, and HJT-compatible formats.

Editor's review of X-RayPC
Although this program won't replace a full-blown antispyware utility and suffers from some performance problems, it has enough pluses to make it a worthy download. X-RayPC doesn't require installation; the application opens automatically once you click the EXE found in the downloadable ZIP file. Upon launch, the program automatically generates a list of processes, browser helper objects, start-up items, and toolbars installed on your PC. We appreciate that the app categorizes found entries as helpful or harmful, but in some tests, it classified the majority of items as undetermined. Also, though X-RayPC managed to find and remove a number of the adware apps we installed for testing purposes, it failed to detect several well-known and especially pesky malware components. The rather bland interface is easy enough to understand, but we wish it let you delete multiple items at once. Despite its issues, this program is totally free, which means users concerned about spyware might at least add it to their arsenals of tools.

X-RayPC
A good quick look - for the experienced

Pros: Great tool, for getting rid of what does not belong. It is much like Hijack This. It is not for the beginner or novice, you do need to be able to recognize what you see and what you are going to remove and the actions you take. It does help by providing a red, green, and grey signal. It is pretty likely that the red marked items need to be removed. It is simple in form and use ability. It is portable and requires no installation. Very few functions, but allows you to remove or delete the bad entries or listings. Again this is for the experienced user or technician.
Cons: not for the beginner or novice. do not like the general interface or the way the functions are laid out, but this is a personal preference.

X-RayPC
Very tightly coded and almost too powerful

Pros: This is the tightest antispyware tool I have used to clean up machines that are really infested. I use the HiJack This format but what i really like is the Database matchup feature that shows processes as reds, greens and greys. You can disregard the greens, get rid of the reds and then research the greys which saves time. The application is very tightly coded, no run time libraries needed so you don't have to install. Highly portable and something you don't usually find this day and age with all the bloatware. I keep it on a USB memory stick when doing repairs out in the field.
Cons: This is NOT a tool for newbies or the unskilled who don't know what they are doing. It is designed for technicians who have experience in malware hunting.

A good program in the 'suspect everything' vein of HijackThis
by: lansharked

Pros: Good for final-stage spyware cleanups and finding what may flown under the radar that other anti-spyware apps haven't got definitions for (yet). Only other app I've found that works under the same 'show everything that might be spyware' concept as HijackThis (which I really like). Also like HijackThis, it may be a bit hazardous in the hands of inexperienced users.
Cons: UI's a bit crude. Also, I think the version here on download.com may not be the latest, btw. (When you download here the uncompressed file version of x-raypc.exe is 1.0.0.4, and when you download from xblock.com its 1.0.0.20 (couldn't find the product version anywhere on the app).
