From Donald Lessau:XYplorer is a multi-tabbed file manager for Windows, featuring a very powerful file search, versatile preview facilities, a highly customizable interface, and a large array of unique ways to efficiently automate frequently recurring tasks. XYplorer is a portable file manager. It does not require any installation, stores all data in the program's folder, and running it does not change your system or registry.

- "Explore with XYplorer"
XYplorer is a shareware alternative to Windows Explorer that offers more tools and file information than the native file manager. You can have XYplorer automatically show thumbs in the document list, or you can use the info panel to get a full-size preview. The info panel offers a wealth of information about files with a powerful search tool that supports Boolean logic, regular expressions, whole word matching, fuzzy terms, and more to find any file quickly.
Although the search feature is arguably the best thing about XYplorer, there are other great features included. The program offers a traditional layout for users who want to keep a Windows Explorer feel, and a tabbed layout for those ready to move on. Users can also run XYplorer in conjunction with scripts and create shortcuts to other apps. At just a shade over 1MB, it's tiny, and since it doesn't edit your computer's Registry, XYplorer is completely portable and utterly worth trying.

Version: XYplorer 7
Pros: With every version of this product I review I say WOW!! those are impressive new features! I have been following its evolution since 2 years and I am amazed how consistently features get added and file management issues solved. No product I have seen has such great user support and such open minded approach to software development.
This product gets more and more powerful with it users enjoying the flexiblity and user-friendliness.
The latest version has this killer feature called "Scripting" which is a powerful addition to the already famous User Defined Commands or UDCs. Scripting lets users to write their own commands (which is very easy to learn) containing multiple tasks, these scripts can perform those tedious time consuming tasks with a single mouse click or keystroke. Ofcourse there's more, dig the whatsnew page.
With XY's smart features and quick adaptability my daily tasks have become a cakewalk. My daily backups are just one click jobs, My rename routines are custom-made to my liking, I have colored my most frequently used folders uniquely, XY lets me preview files quickly, I can jump to my fav browser quickly from XY, I can open one file with two applications with one keystroke etc. The list ofcourse is far from complete. But you get an idea of what XY can do.
In short, I have never once doubted the philosophy of XYplorer which is to keep the app as straighforward as possible yet giving users all the powers and flexibility to handle file management tasks.

Version: XYplorer 7
"Missing dual pane - big failure!"
Pros: The fair upgrade of windows explorer but a little steep price for it features!
Cons: The missing dual pane is really a pain in the butt. One modern explorer should support a basic feature like that - It is ridiculous!
I'm totally not satisfied!

Version: XYplorer 7
"The cream of the crop of file managers."
Pros: I've tried all the major (and not so major) file managers out there (Directory Opus, PowerDesk, Xplorer2, etc...). Of all of them, XYplorer is the most polished, well thought out, and well supported.
XYplorer has a very powerful file search (supporting Boolean, RegEx, content search, and more). It's also portable (meaning that it stores nothing in the registry, doesn't require an installation routine, and only requires the files in it's directory in order to run), which means that it can be used with tremendous ease from a flash drive. It also supports Portable File Associations, so you can set your own custom file associations, and even point them to other applications on your flash drive. There is no other file manager that can do this, to my knowledge.
It has a very well thought out user interface, and the program is constantly being enhanced and upgraded. Unlike most other software companies, the developer of XY maintains a close relationship with the users - bugs are fixed almost immediately, and feature requests are taken very seriously. If a feature request is easy to implement, and is a good idea, they are often implemented within a matter of days. How many other developers can you say that for?
The single and only real issue I ever had with XY was the lack of Dual Pane. However, the developer has agreed to implement it in the next release (v8.0), and there is a discussion on their forum right now, discussing the specifics of how they would like it implemented.
I am very familiar with most of the file managers out there right now, and none of them come close to XYplorer when you look at the overall whole of the features, growth, and support that is offered.
