Editor's review

Many artists are stuck trying to create the sound of the present; L.A.'s Soundsystem manages to conjure hip-hop's future and its history in one fell swoop. MC Rashaan Ahmad and Oakland's Crown City Rockers turn soulful African beats into hot, danceable party breaks. And they're funny, too: Who else could sing, "The party's still kicking like Ralph Macchio"?

Biography

KSD Music is proud to present the first original recording from Afrodisiac Soundsystem. Following the highly successful Afroheat series comes this new 12" banger. The two tracks epitomize everything that the Afrodisiac Soundsystem (Jed & DJ's Haul and Mason) is about: party-rocking hip-hop flavor coupled with pulsing, Afrobeat drum breaks. Both feature the emceeing of Raashan Ahmad from Oakland-based rap group the Crown City Rockers

Based around an ultra-rare break that studio-wizard and A.S.S. co-founder Jed unearthed while record digging in West Africa, ""Revolution,"" is a track that truly reflects it's title. An uptempo fusion of hip-hop, modern breaks, and African ! rhythms, "Revolution" " offers a fresh take on the classic disco-rap style . With it's futuristic, driving beat and epic chorus, "Revolution" is a sure shot dance! floor slammer that will bend the ears of music fans across the spectrum of genres.

The other tune, ""It's So Nice," "might be what it would sound like if DMX or Lil Jon kicked conscious lyrics. Raashan is rabble-rousing over a thick beat with the same intensity as DMX, but, rather than rhyming about guns, liquor, or weed, he's talking about the collective consciousness that comes from people uniting through music. The party is music! The people are the instrument. And Afrodisiac Soundsystem keep the people moving.
