Editor's review

Influences as varied as Mozart and Enya find themselves bearing on this Russian composer's neo-classical/ambient pieces. It makes sense, then, that Tiuniaev's whispery compositions artfully mix pristine melodies, crisp beats, and deeply abstract synth work.

Biography

Alex Tiuniaev is an ambient composer and electronic music artist from Moscow, Russia. His latest release "Artificial Symphony" combines the symphonic elements of neo-classical music with ethereal ambient atmospheres and soundscapes.

"I don't like to divide music into genres," says Tiuniaev. "For me the most important thing is the atmosphere. Music theorists tend to single out three basic elements of music; melody, harmony and rhythm. Unfortunately, I know many songs in which all these elements are present, but they just don't work for me. I think it's because of this elusive thing we call atmosphere."

With influences ranging from modern ambient and classical artists like Howard Shore, James Newton Howard, Hans Zimmer, Michael Cretu, Vangelis, Jean Michel Jarre, Mike Oldfield and John Williams, as well as classical and baroque composers, Tiuniaev's music can be referred to as belonging to electronic, ambient and neo-classical genres.

"I think Mozart's 40th Symphony is one of the best instrumental works I've ever heard," said Alex in an interview. "I don't care that it was composed more than 200 years ago. And I say this not because people around the world consider it a timeless classic. It just works for me. But it doesn't mean that it should work for everybody else on this planet."??

Alex had studied music at school for 3 years. "Then I dropped out," he explains. "It seemed so boring at that time.(I was 10) Even now it seems boring, since all that stuff that they teach at school has nothing to do with the music I compose now."

Tiuniaev currently resides in Moscow, Russia. He's working on a new ambient release as well as writing songs for his Brit Rock band.
