The churning punk beat and frank female lead vocals of this Swedish quartet make Blondie comparisons inevitable. They're not entirely unfounded, but the better analogy might be to the surly grunge of such female-fronted '90s groups as Veruca Salt and the Breeders. The beat's different, but the inverted bubblegum spirit is much the same.
Vit.Ri.Fied, the latest from NY and Sweden-based dance-punk outfit Aluminum Babe was recently proclaimed "the best record new record I've heard in years" by Huw Stephens from BBC Radio 1.
So, what does the record sound like? Well…What do Alice Cooper, The Sex Pistols and Swedish kids songs have in common? Ask the "babe" in Aluminum Babe, Anna , who drew her musical inspiration from these elements in her home town environment in Stockholm, Sweden. Her band is bi-continental, and is making its mark on New York City and Sweden with its dance-punk rock that's buttered up with coy pop edges. Simple, direct and passionate, Aluminum Babe's songs and no-bullshit spirit breathe life into the dance-punk rock genre like it hasn't seen since the original days of the Ramones and early Blondie.
Declares the New York Press, "Finally someone combines bubble pop hooks with raw punk power without sounding like anyone else". They went on to refer to Vit.Ri.Fied as "an instant classic".
In September 2005 Aluminum Babe will record a session for BBC's RADIO 1 on Huw Stephens show. Also, over 100 stations around the country are already playing Aluminum Babe, including the legendary, influential KROQ in Los Angeles.
