Featuring Suki Ewers, a former member of Opal and Mazzy Star, Anemone may be the missing link in the country music/dream pop connection. Ewers weaves a web of gently strummed chords and wistful words about lost love. Her L.A. quartet produces a daydreamers' perfect soundtrack.
Anemone features Suki Ewers, formerly of Opal and Mazzy Star. The band makes dreamy, spacy, folk rock that inhabits the same realm as Acetone and Spiritualized. Influences include Brian Eno, Velvet Underground, Nico, Neil Young, Big Star.
After meeting up with David Roback and Kendra Smith, Suki helped crystallize Opal. After the release of Happy Nightmare Baby, the group went on an ill-fated tour during which Kendra Smith left the group , effectively putting an end to the band. Opal post-humously released Opal Early Recordings, on which Suki sings the lead vocal on the track Brigit on Sunday. The remaining members with the addition of Hope Sandoval then metamorphosed into Mazzy Star.
After the release of She Hangs Brightly, Suki formed a side project, Anemone, which performed and recorded between Mazzy Star tours. Anemone is based in Los Angeles and has been playing mainly in the Silver Lake area since 1995.
