Old School gamers will appreciate the 8-bit sensibilities of video game anthems that subtly infiltrate autoKratz’s synthetic sensibilities, although the sudden introduction of actual lyrics might surprise you. Serrated and abrupt yet lasciviously danceable, autoKratz have a slightly more polished, refined, and commercially viable sound than most so if you’ve worked your body into a contorted discomfort, let autoKratz lay down a solid state set to soothe the robotic romantic in you.
2007 sees the release of the much-anticipated debut single from London based electronic outfit, autoKratz. “ReaKtor” is a powerful, driving and relentless machine that clearly shows why the duo will find themselves very much at home as they begin life at the Kitsuné Maison. Their sound is typical of the pioneering Parisian label who have brought the world the likes of Digitalism, Simian Mobile Disco and Klaxons, adding yet another electronic act of merit to its roster.
“ReaKtor” is an electro monster dominated by a vigorous hook with added glitches, bleeps and pulsating melodies. David autoKratz describes the track as being inspired by the films “12 Monkeys” & “La Jetee”. “It’s a song that creates a vivid picture in your mind, of panic and confusion”, Russell adds “and creating imagery is what autoKratz is about, making you think. And dance hopefully.”
The other side of the record is taken by the Daft Punk-esque bleepy stomper “It’s On”. With a compulsive vocal hook over a fat glitch funk backbeat that typifies the fullness of the autoKratz sound.
AutoKratz have come a long way in the 6 months since their conception, having already notched up an impressive list of shows including sets at Fabric with Digitalism and Para One, The Camden Crawl at Koko alongside Goose and The Damned and a string of warehouse parties featuring Gucci Soundsystem and Vicarious Bliss. They have crafted a rip-roaring live show and visibly brim with energy and confidence, and it is this energy that has got people talking.
And now that autoKratz have signed to Kitsune for their debut album, looks like this’ll be the start of something big.
