Like Tori Amos, Autumn Shade's Jes Lenee started as a classically trained piano prodigy and has since moved into thinking-people's pop. Her fragile, intimate voice equally recalling Amos and fellow proud Midwesterner Conor Oberst, Lenee leads a Tulsa outfit that's gaining renown for spare, deeply empathetic alt-folk tunes.
The songs below are from her Lo-Fi EP, Grandfather's Attic, published September of 2003. The band is currently hard at work on a new full-length album.
Autumn Shade is a colorful mix of Bohemian folk music and art. The eclectic music is heavily based on natural and emotional poetics, with powerful energy in the melodies and rhythms woven together.
Autumn Shade has been exciting fans ever since they first appeared on the Tulsa Teen Talk Show in 2003 with their song, Black Rain. Soon after their first television exposure, they were chosen as finalists for Act4.net?s Make A Wish charity concert held annually at The Metro in Chicago, Ill., planned for the Summer of 2004. Three months later, Autumn Shade picked up steam by releasing their well-received LP Grandfather?s Attic, and recorded a feature track for the Gypsy Coffee House 2004 Compilation still in production. In addition to touring, the band regularly performs at the famed Gypsy Coffee House and other local venues.
Jes Lenee', 20 began her journey as a classically trained pianist, creating award-winning songs by the age of eleven. As she grew older, she obtained a passion to learn the complexities of guitar. She used her talent to play in several bands ranging from rock to reggae to jazz to goth. After learning her craft she felt a need to take her music to a different place, creating the beat-generation inspired sounds of Autumn Shade.
In addition to developing the band, she penned the entire musical score for the feature film, Train Tracks. This passionate, nature-loving individual continues the search of diversity through music as well as other forms of art such as poetry, painting, filmmaking and photography.
