Biography
January 29, 2008 (Los Angeles, CA) – Multi-platinum recording artist BARENAKED LADIES will release SNACKTIME, a collection of original children’s songs, on May 6, 2008 through their imprint label Desperation Records. The album was produced and mixed by Michael Phillip Wojewoda, who also worked with the band on their debut Gordon. "Our collective kids now outnumber the band more than 2 to 1," explains vocalist/guitarist Ed Robertson."We set out to make a record that would be entertaining for them…not strictly a children’s record, but a record that children would really enjoy. Our kids are in to all kinds of music. They love the They Might Be Giants kids records, but they also love The Beatles, Fountains of Wayne, Randy Newman, Black Eyed Peas and Green Day. Making the focus about what our kids like was a truly liberating process and fun for the whole band." "Besides, our biological clocks are ticking," jokes drummer Tyler Stewart. "The medical risks associated with releasing children’s music after age 40 are well documented, and we thought it best not to put any of our lives in danger."
SNACKTIME is composed of 24 tracks, including such titles as "Pollywog in Bog," "Popcorn" and "Here Come The Geese." With 11 children ranging from three months to 12 years old among them, the band was never at a lack of inspiration or imagination.Additionally, the title track includes guest appearances from celebrities/musicians like Geddy Lee, Lyle Lovett, Jason Priestley, Sarah McLachlan, Gordon Lightfoot and more.
Barenaked Ladies will return to the studio later this year to start work on their next full-length album that will celebrate 20 years together.Over two decades, the Grammy-nominated band—Steven Page (lead vocals/guitarist), Ed Robertson (lead vocals/guitarist), Jim Creeggan (vocals/bass), Kevin Hearn (vocals/keyboard), and Tyler Stewart (vocals/drums)— has sold over 14-million records worldwide, become one of the top touring artists in North America and made multiple appearances on national television shows like The Tonight Show With Jay Leno, Late Night With Conan O’Brien and Live! With Regis & Kelly. In 2004, Barenaked Ladies created their own record label called Desperation Records; Snacktime marks the fourth full-length release on their label.
