Biography

Berk is a hard working rock & roll band hailing from St. Louis, MO. Conceived by singer/songwriter Doug Byrkit; Berk was born in the winter of 2003. Originally, a diverse group was formed to play some of Doug’s solo material, but something else soon emerged.

“ The guys in this band bring so much to the table. Their supberb musicianship and the blending of their distinctive influences create a vibe that would be impossible for me to achieve by myself. They deserve as much credit for these songs as I do. I may write the basic song, but these guys take it and create a sound that’s defiantly unique. I think that this quality is something that has always been missing from my work, and I am very excited about what the future holds for us.” db

Berk brings together two pairs of musicians who have played worked together for many years: Dougs and Brians first band together was in high school, and thus began a now fifteen year friendship that has taken them together through music school, several bands, and many diverse musical projects. Tony and Joe, who were both music majors at Greenville College, first got together with the formation of their band The L.P. Outsiders.

“ I had known Tony back when we both used to work at Swing City Music. I hadn’t heard from him in years until one day he called me out of the blue to fill in on an Outsiders gig. From that first night of hearing him and Joe, I began to hatch a plan that would later become Berk. I knew that if could get these guys on board, with Brian on the drums, that we could have quite a unique band. It isnt just the musicianship, though. I could tell from the first drink with the boys that this is one of those groups that has that rare combination of good musicians who not only enjoy playing together, but hanging out together as well.” db
