Masters of the long song, these rockers use the drama of low piano notes or a theremin to create a base for lush vocals that build to an operatic rise and fall akin to the Cocteau Twins or Kate Bush. The music delivers a chilling--yet ironically uplifting --experience to the listener.
In the fall of 2004, the Kansas City studio where Blackout Gorgeous had been recording was broken into and their nearly completed debut album was stolen. If they did not immediately trade it for some crack, the perpetrators enjoyed a sneak peek at the experimental sonic stylings of Tragic Logic, a thirteen track adventure in progressive electronic-rock.
Thankfully, the diligent sextet went back into the studio to recreate the magic. A duet of male and female vocals effortlessly floats over the combination of electric piano, guitars, dreamy synths, programmed beats and live drum kit as Blackout Gorgeous creates a unique sonic painting with each song. However, you don't need to commit a felony to enjoy the music- Tragic Logic, is now available.
Grade: A
"Tragic Logic is an outstanding mix of electronica meets soft soul rock and mind-numbing mood music...Blackout Gorgeous has a rich and original sound and I expect them to get plenty of recognition as time goes on."
