Begun in 1986 by Projekt label founder Sam Rosenthal as a vehicle for his own musical vision, Black Tape For A Blue Girl's signature combination of gothic, ethereal, ambient and neo- classical elements has explored existential themes of loves lost and passions yet to come over a span of 9 albums. Vocalist Helm also turns in a deliciously bemused performance on the sardonic "Knock Three Times" (the rest of the stanza: "on your coffin if you want my love"), a catchy tune that manages to both condemn bullies who torment Goths and rib the black lipstick set at the same time.
