Editor's review

Backed by Adam Duritz (Counting Crows) and his new label Tyrannosaurus, Blacktop Mourning is starting out in good company. Duritz contributes background vocals on a few tracks (check out "Don't Defend"), but don't expect "Mr. Jones" melodies--this pop-punk group delivers emo with a metal edge.

Biography

Blacktop Mourning, a rock/pop punk band from Chicago was started by Max Steger, after playing guitar in clubs since he was 11 years old, and working with renowned producers and musicians. Max wrote and arranged these songs that more closely reflected his vision at age 15. A blend of melodic pop punk vocals and lyrics laid over heavy rock, distorted guitars, he ended up with his debut ep, "BLACKTOP MOURNING". It features a rock opera, a kick ass ballad, sing along pop punk songs and lyrics that will haunt you for days. Max brought on Joe Levand and Shawn Nystrand to join with BTM early on. After a couple of lineup changes to find a better fit for the band, in early 2007, Greg Gerard and Nate Wethy were added to complete the band. With catchy hooks and upbeat arrangements completed, the EP was recorded with Doug McBride at Gravity Studios in Chicago (home to FalloutBoy and Rachel Yamagada). Joe Levand took over the lead vocals on our major release, NO REGRET this year bringing his unique vocals to the band, after playing bass for the last two years. When the EP dropped, and within two weeks of that self-release, MTV approached BTM and offered to license the music for use on "Meet the Barkers Season 2". What? We obliged and the rest is..well, all over MTV! Within two weeks, other music producers from MTV asked for the music to be featured not only on their shows, but also offered to license the music to television, films and video games. Now, a little more than a year later, we are traveling almost full-time,recently signed with Adam Duritz and his newly formed label, T-Recs and continue to perform. We ended up on 12 MTV Reality Shows being one of the most played bands in 2006, performed live at SXSW this year for DirecTV, played at STUBBS during SXSW, and are heading to Bamboozle and Warped Tour. A year to remember, for sure! THANK YOU ALL! IWe're nothing without you.
