The man called Pedro Winter was right to name himself Busy P. Life before launching the most hyped electronic music label this year was hectic enough--with his managing the careers of Parisian dance legends Daft Punk, Cassius, and now Justice. With his cheekily named Ed Banger label of earsplitting electro-punk, Winter says he "makes noise funky"--and in that vein, he's managed to unite different flavors of hip kids across the world. And if that weren't enough, he produces his own tracks, too, which are a more mellowed, controlled take on the recently carved out genre, falling somewhere between labelmates Mr. Oizo (loud and punky) and Mr. Flash (smooth and funky).
Something about Busy P's "Rainbow Man" brings the old PBS show 3-2-1 Contact to mind. Perhaps it's the sense of wide-eyed discovery. Perhaps there's something in the descending synth line that stirs memories of the theme song. Whatever the case, this track off Ed Rec Vol 2 is as head-bobbingly addictive as anything Ed Banger Records has smacked us with thus far. VICE is proudly releasing Ed Rec Vol 2 for your computer to download on March 6 and for your hands to clutch to your heart on April 10.
