Dreamy and cute, Caroline's brand of ethereal pop skips on clouds and hitches rides on shooting stars, her girlish voice enhanced by synths and filters. It's the kind of stuff you wish was on the radio today, rather than the usual dreck.
Last year, LA-based minimalist songstress Caroline Lufkin released a record of delicate pop music called Murmurs. Today, she announces the upcoming release of Murmurs Mixes, a remix album available exclusively from iTunes on January 8th. Not only acting as a worthy companion to the acclaimed Murmurs, Mixes makes for a stunning stand-alone album – featuring remixes from a wide array of Caroline's friends, collaborators and likeminded artists, including Lullatone, Brightest Feathers (aka half of Saxon Shore), Logreybeam, Owen Vallis, Repose, Wake, DJ Poignant, Kai Kurosawa, Eli Walks, and Andreas Bjorck. Last week, Pitchfork premiered Owen Vallis' take on the twirling "All I Need." Writer Marc Hogan rightly claimed, "the remix … goes for a slightly more club-ready arrangement and manages to improve on the original. Synths here squeak and wobble, while the pulsing bass line is, thankfully, a bit more energetic. Scratchy noise also overlays big parts of the song, better highlighting Lufkin's angelic coos than the string, organ, and warm-bass hum of the original."
