At face value, this Dutch septet is a revival outfit; but when the genre in question is Charanga, there's little concern of a stale rehash. Crisis animates the lively Cuban style in all of its sweeping string arrangements and flaming flute play, giving kindling to a hypnotic rhythmic current.
Gerardo creates the "Charanga la Crisis" in order to continue and to spread to the charanguera tradition in Europe, interpreting mambo, guarachas, son, cha cha cha and danzon. "Charanga la Crisis" recreates with its varied repertoire different times that go from the music of the twenties to the decade of the seventies. In her presentations she constantly pays tribute to the great ones of this genre like: Son Arca?o y sus Maravillas, Orquesta America, Orquesta Aragon, Enrique Jorrin, Cachao, Fajardo, Pacheco, Pupi Lagarreta, Orquesta Broadway etc.
Gerardo has managed to reunite musicians of exelente level who are authentic connoisseurs of the charanguero genre such as: Juan Carlos ?Bulu? Viloria (Venezuela), Miguel Montenegro (Panama), Roset van Oss (Holland), Elena Gonzalez Pisonero (Spain), Claudia Valenzuela (Colombia) and Laura Valenzuela (Colombia). Rhythm, violins and flauta, traditional formation of charanga gives you the color and flavour of the Cuban tradition. Ipa gozarrrrr!
In 2005 its new CD titled ?Charanga la Crisis, Salsa Antigua? will be release d. which reunites 12 legendary themes of this excited music.
