Chick Maggot is a snobby, quasi-intellectual, neo-posi, philanthropic band. Huh?
They play simple, fun music. Chick Maggot does not accept payment for shows or CDs.
Chick Maggot is Teddy "Ruxpin" Reynolds, Scott "Tommy Kendall Jr." Kendall and Roy "Vey!" Sasano.
Ancient history:
In spring 1998, Roy and Scott started Chick Maggot as a wedding prank for Mari, one of Roy's sisters (now a writer for
The Edmonton Journal,
See Magazine and a bunch of other stuff). With Max Murray on drums, they played a 4-song set to an uncomfortable crowd at The Princess Theatre.
In late 1998, Max was coldly dumped and replaced by Nick Watterson. Max went on to make lots of money making neat things out of plastic and whoring it up. Chick Maggot went on to record the
Taco Hell EP with Nick and played a few great shows.
In mid 2000, Nick left Chick Maggot to learn how to tell time and was promptly replaced by Matt "Morinto" Morin. Nick has since played in Schrift, The Open Wounds, The Ejaculators and Panik Attak. Chick Maggot went on to record 2 (two) unnamed, unfinished demos with Matt and played a few great shows.
In late 2001, Matt got antsy and couldn't decide on what musical direction Chick Maggot should take. Frustration ensued and the band broke up.
Several hours later, Jamie Salloum (AKA "Jamie Starr") volunteered to drum in a new band with Roy.
Several minutes later, Scott signed on as well. The band "Formerly Known as Chick Maggot" played some great shows with Jamie and went on to record
The Worst 20 Minutes of Your Life as "Chick Maggot". Matt went on to drum for Nothing At All (Osprey, Careworn, Care Worm) and Nervous Breakdown.
On the eve of their CD launch in early 2002, Scott left Chick Maggot to concentrate on his studies at Bovine University. Daunted, but determined to release
Worst 20, Jamie and Roy recruited Dave "Scott" Noel as fill-in on bass. Chick Maggot played a couple fun shows with Dave.
In mid 2002, Dave left Chick Maggot to pursue his dream of taking pictures of GI Jill. Nathan Salloum (AKA "The Legendary Nate Salloum", "Nathan Broadway", "Jamie's Brother") began practising with Chick Maggot.
In late 2002, with Roy constantly fretting over Nathan not looking enough like Scott, the Salloum brothers left Chick Maggot to join the Vancouver boy band, The Casanova Playboys. Incidentally, Nathan has quit The Casanova Playboys and all evidence of his existence has since been deleted by their label, Happyland Music (a division of ASH Publishing, the entertainment wing of the Weyland Yutani Corporation).
In early 2004, legendary drummer Wayne Arthurson (SMAK!, The Dilettantes) prompted Roy and Scott to play one last Chick Maggot show with him on drums. After a few practises with Wayne, Chick Maggot stumbled across Teddy "Ruxpin" Reynolds. Ted was interested in joining Chick Maggot permanently. His talent and attitude made him a perfect fit for the band. Chick Maggot has since played several fantastic shows and recorded the
Keeping the X in Xmas EP and
Zero Dollars, Zero Sense with Ted.
With Scott unable to commit much time to the band, Trevor Foy (of MoreBadNews fame) filled in for a bunch of shows, including an opening slot for Chixdiggit! on June 12.
Trevor has since disappeared to fix his life, however, Scott is finding time to play shows with the band again.
