Editor's review

There's a terrific frayed edge on Beirne's technical mastery; it's as though the guitarist doesn't want his skill to come off as overly fancy. Whatever its rationale, the mix of backporch spirit and session man fretburning ends up feeling warmhearted and convincing.

Biography

What do you get when you combine Chris Beirne’s talents with his technical abilities on steel guitar, slide guitar, harmonica, and vocals with his performing and recording experience? You get “Freezerburn”, Chris Beirne’s second CD. Although Chris is confident in many styles, “Freezerburn” showcases his ability to flawlessly fuse Bluegrass with Americana. Chris’ original styles include Blues, Rock, Bluegrass, and Country, but he has also chosen to include a unique array of material in his repertoire. Best known for his work with Americana music legends, The Crabby Grass Boys, Chris is a seasoned touring musician, Chris’ musical career began in his hometown of Chicago, Illinois. It was in the Chicago area that Chris started playing guitar at the age of 15 years. He studied with many notable ‘masters’ and learned various techniques such as a new ring finger under blocking style for pedal steel. It was there that he developed a style of music that grabs hold and won’t let go. From Chicago, Chris followed his music and moved on to Portland, Oregon where he honed his skills with the group called Balance. It was in Oregon that Chris recorded his first CD “Burnside Cadillac”. In addition to his own solo career, and his experience with The Crabby Grass Boys, Chris has performed as a member of Balance, and the duo Chris Beirne & Miguel Martinez. Other recordings that Chris has played Steele or Dobro on are with Eric Moore "Songdog", Blake Wood “Safe in Heaven Dead”, Alton Rex “Soul Faces”,and Alton Rex, “Live at Longhorn Cavern” Some of Chris’ key performances have been the “Father’s Day Rose Remembrance for the Department of Veteran Affairs” at the Viet Nam Veterans Memorial in Washington, DC, and at the Birchmere in Alexandria, Virginia. After living in Portland, Chris moved on to Austin, Texas where he knew they would find the musicians who would understand the music that is dear to his heart. This is where Chris’s new CD “Freezerburn” takes off. Chris Beirne The consummate Vocalist, Guitarist, Steele Pedal, Dobro and Harmonica player for the 21st Century!
