If the Chris Geith Group plays much longer, we're going to have to start coming up with new analogies for smooth: silk is sandpaper compared to the sound of this New York ensemble. But Geith's music is hardly sedate. The group plays with an upbeat intensity rarely found on this end of the smooth jazz/fusion spectrum.
The music of The Chris Geith Group is based on a combination of many different styles including jazz, R&B, latin, pop, and classical, but focused in blending them into a contemporary jazz context. The main members of the band are now keyboardist/composer Chris Geith, who is also the leader and the musical director, drummer Dean Kosh, and saxophonist Fred Scerbo. Special guests include bass player Dave Livolsi, and vocalist Timmy Maia. THE BAND HAS BEEN AT NR.1 IN THE "SMOOTH JAZZ", "JAZZ FUSION", AND "CONTEMPORARY URBAN/R&B" CHARTS ON MP3.COM. Their album "Prime Time" was selected "Top Net CD" on MP3.com with over 1,400,000 downloads making headlines in the "New York Times". They have also earned a high level reputation for performing in such world famous New York City jazz clubs and concert halls like Birdland, Visiones and the Apollo Theatre, and for appearing on national TV including CNBC. The Chris Geith Group has performed in numerous jazz festival in the USA including The SNET Street Festival, Art On The Edge, The Jersey City Jazz Festival, and has traveled to Europe to perform at international jazz festivals like Veneto Jazz, and the Euromeet festivals in Italy.
