Producer, DJ, remixer, and label owner Christopher Lawrence has embraced dance music as a personal frontier. Known for crafting epic and infectious tracks that work well in the hands of DJs, as well for his flawless mixing skills--which keep getting sharper with age--Lawrence is set to further enrapture dance-floor denizens.
We all know what's become of Christopher Lawrence (recipient of the Best DJ award at the Dancestar Awards in 2002, voted #5 in BPM Magazine's America's Favorite DJ poll for 2004 and #35 in DJ Magazine's Top 100 for 2003, headlining the US tours of Ministry Of Sound, Cream and Gatecrasher, releasing numerous chart toping singles and a slew of highly acclaimed mix CDs, etc., etc.), but few know where he got his start with Hook Recordings. For those that need brushing up on their history, Hook Recordings was an independent record label established in 1993 by seminal Scottish DJ/producer, Chris Cowie. Over the course of its 10-year existence, Hook grew into one of the leading electronic music labels specializing in progressive Trance, with some of the world's top DJs supporting their tracks, including Sasha, John Digweed, Paul Oakenfold and Paul Van Dyk. Hook went on to release over 200 records, working with such artists as Taylor, Sandra Collins, X-Cabs, Joshua Ryan, Fred Numf, Transa and our very own Christopher Lawrence, beginning in 1996. This CD that you hold in your hands represents some the finest moments spanning Christopher's fruitful, but sometimes tumultuous recording career with Hook and co-producer Chris Cowie, including such classic tracks as Navigator, Cruise Control, Filmer and Shredder. Perhaps the most compelling element of this collection is the variety of Christopher's productions. While the majority of the tracks are main room, peak hour club anthems, it is the darker moodier compositions that highlight the versatility in Christopher's work as a producer free to explore both the dance floor and chillout room alike. Un-Hooked, indeed. Catch Christopher Lawrence on tour all Fall/Winter 2004 in support of UnHooked, out on System Recordings on November 2nd!
