Hugo was born in Guatemala, Central America, moved as a child to Cali, Colombia and went to the USA to study, where he now lives. Majoring in Biology, Literature and later Development and Marketing in Europe, Hugo is a multicultural artist. He has published several poetry books (impresiones, en el anden, de puerta en puerta, en nuestra casa, poemas de amor) and has team up with Italian Composer Massimiliano Agelao in the production of two CDs.
The first one is called "cuantos poemas", 12 songs from poems written by Hugo, where oustanding solo voices and chorus merge with the poet's own voice bringing life and soul to the core of words and emotions. The music was written by M. Agelao and this wole production was produced by him.
The second CD is called "poesia necesaria" and this time, Cuban Composer Ana Maria Garcia wrote the songs based in well known spanish poems from authors coming from Latin America and Spain (Benedetti, Neruda, Gala, Becquer, Goytisolo, Santa Teresa, Leon Felipe, Celaya, Velarde). With the guidance and production of M. Agelao, the CD was recorded in Cali, Colombia. The poet read excerpts of the poems except the beautiful poem written by his grandmother, Margarita Gamboa, which was read by the poets love partner, photographer Leonor (Cuca) Pacheco.
Some of the songs from the first CD have been adapted by the group "Musicalizando" a group formed by young artists from Cali, Colombia, who went on the road for 3 years performing poems set to music in schools, universities, festivals, book fairs, etc. A DVD of the group's farewell presentation, with the participation of the poet Hugo Cuevas-Mohr reading his own poems, is due to appear soon. A CD version is also on the works and samples are available here. The voice of beautiful Lorena Mazuera and handsome Mauricio Gomez are a true find and we should hear from them as their career develops. Videos are available in You Tube, REVVER (look for hcmohr).
Hugo is in the midst of completing a third CD based again in his own poems and the music of Caribbean Composer Lucho ONeil. Lucho is a composer from the Island of San Andres, Colombia, where he works at his Backyard Studio, using traditional island music. Poems of the sea, the waves, the ocean breezes join ONeils calypsos, reggaes and other rhythms in this much awaited album.
Hugo is also the producer of www.musicalizando.com a collection of spanish poetry set to music, www.declamando.com a collection of poetry read by its authors and professional poetry readers and performers and www.visualizando.com where he explores the world of poetry and the image.
