Since forming in 1995, Cursive has become known for its off-center instrumentation, complex song structures, and gut-wrenching lyrics. It's this rare ability to convey emotional honesty with an uncompromising, adventurous spirit that sets Cursive apart from the standard emo/indie crowd.
Following the release of Cursive's 2006 opus Happy Hollow, Tim Kasher and his Omaha-based brethren launched a remix site which allowed access to the nuts and bolts of album track "Bad Sects." Remixers submitted their rearranged visions and versions to Saddle Creek in hopes of winning the grand prize: real estate on the B-side of a future Cursive single. And, sure, the winning remix (courtesy of A Crude Mechanical) is out-of-this-world good, but our personal fav comes from hot- shit I Heart Comix duo OCELOT and is featured along side the winner. What do YOU think? The first 10 people to write back telling us which remix they prefer will win a signed copy of the Happy Hollow vinyl! Pretty sick, huh?
"Bad Sects," the second single from Happy Hollow, is available digitally and as a 12" LP featuring the winning remix by A Crude Mechanical alongside a strings remix from a Curisve pal and the unadorned instrumental. The five runner-up remixes are all available for listening at www.badsects.com.
