In the hands of Dave McLean the harmonica is taken to lands that were never travelled by Toots Thielman. I don't know if Toots would approve; he would probably think less of the accompaniment than of McLean's inventive playing of the harmonica. He might find, as I did, the sample pieces interesting to listen to and at times inspired, but rather too chaotic for the music which is obviously in there to be experienced at its best. Overall, this seems a poor use to which to put so musical an instrument as the harmonica. Whether McLean's playing skill comes near to that of Toots, who can tell from these pieces. Please, Dave, never stifle your creativity but I hope we will hear more musical playing of your harmonica in your future offerings.
