With a hint of sadness in his pure-sounding voice, San Francisco (by way of Dublin, Ireland) singer-songwriter David Hopkins has a style reminiscent of such greats as Van Morrison and Nick Drake. His effortless, easygoing melodies compliment the introspective lyrics, nicely balancing hope and melancholy.
Sometimes you hear a new song and instantly you feel as though you’ve known it your whole life. That is the reaction of many that hear David Hopkins for the first time.
Dublin born, David Hopkins is writing songs that you will remember forever. David played keyboards and wrote songs in the popular Irish band, LiR that resulted in a top 10 ten hit "In A Day" and #1 Alternative album Magico Magico.
Now living in San Francisco, David released his first full-length, solo album entitled Here Comes the Bright Light. With its haunting melodies and introspective lyrics Bright Light made the perfect musical companion for any fan of Nick Drake, Rufus Wainright, or Belle & Sebastian while still retaining a unique style all its own.
This album released on Modest Records caught the attention of the underground critics and earned him high profile gigs at the CMJ Music Festival and Nadine's Wild Weekend.
His newly created full length demo, known as One Dark Morning, has begun to circulate and has already caught the ear of DJ Rick O’Shea at Ireland’s 2FM. One of his songs, "Twirl For Me", is being covered by actress Bronagh Gallagher on her upcoming album with legendary producer Brian Eno. This new collection of songs also gained him an invite to play the IMRO showcase at the SXSW Music Festival in Austin, Texas in March. David is now set to hit the road with this new set of future classics.
David Hopkins is writing songs that you will remember forever. He is not indie. He is not a fad. He is someone with a voice that is timeless and needs to be heard.
